Freestanding Glass Panel Installation; kiln formed & toughened glass with sandblasted detail

Location: EHE Sensory Garden Mental Health Unit, Stepping Hill Hospital, Stockport

Client: Pennine Care NHS Trust

Landscape Design Consultant: Robin Williams & Associates

'Louise was commissioned to produce glass artwork for the Stepping Hill Hospital Sensory Garden as part of the King’s Fund ‘Enhancing the Healing Environment’ Scheme.  Though the steering group had expressed an interest for including glass artwork within the garden, they weren’t sure what direction this should take and Louise worked with them to develop ideas and designs that suited the specific requirements of the garden and its users.  Using wording and poetry written by patients, Louise designed and created six glass monoliths that included elements of a forest and aspects of nature with the thoughts and feelings of patients used throughout the designs and sandblasted onto the final pieces. The steering group and all stakeholders were delighted with the glass artworks.  I felt that Louise very much captured what the garden was about and managed to create art that complemented the garden yet also made a beautiful focal point in the space. Louise saw the project through from start to completion, managing the installation and liaising with all required parties effectively.'
